Hello, How Are You? Day 2026: Start a meaningful conversation

Mental Health Ireland is encouraging people across Ireland to say hello, ask “How are you?” with meaning, and really listen on 15 May.

Today marks Hello, How Are You? Day 2026, a national Mental Health Ireland campaign built around one simple idea: that a genuine “Hello, how are you?” can be the start of meaningful connection, understanding and support. The campaign encourages people to ask the question with meaning and really listen to the answer. Mental Health Ireland also reminds people that you do not need to be an expert to have a supportive conversation.

This year’s campaign features ambassador Eric Roberts, who is helping to highlight the importance of genuine connection and taking time to really check in with the people around us.

Now in its fifth year, Hello, How Are You? continues to grow. In 2025, the campaign included 291 events across 26 counties, 193 people trained in mental health conversation skills, and over 80,000 campaign resources distributed.

If you would like to take part today, start with a simple check-in with a friend, neighbour, colleague or family member. You can also visit the official Hello, How Are You? campaign page to learn more, explore resources and see what events are happening near you through the Join an Event section.
