The voices of people with lived experience must be heard and included in shaping mental health supports and services.
HSE Dublin and North East is inviting applications from service users, family members and carers to join a new Mental Health Services Improvement Board.
The Board will help shape the future of mental health services across North Dublin, Louth, Meath, Cavan and Monaghan. It aims to make sure that lived experience is part of service improvement from the beginning.
This is an opportunity for people with experience of mental health services to share their voice, insight and perspective in partnership with HSE staff.
Mental health services are provided by HSE Dublin and North East in the community and in hospitals. The new Improvement Board will bring people together to help improve these services for service users and the people who support them.
The Board will have around 12 to 16 members. It will be chaired by Dervila Eyres, Integrated Healthcare Area Manager for Cavan Monaghan.
Board members will share the perspective of service users, family members and carers.
The role will involve:
- joining online meetings every 6 to 8 weeks
- contributing to mental health service improvements
- sharing lived experience of mental health services
- working collaboratively with HSE staff and other Board members
Meetings are expected to last 1 to 2 hours. The role is expected to take around 2 to 3 hours per month and will last for two years.
This is a personal voluntary role. While applicants may have links with other organisations, they will not be acting as representatives of those organisations.
You can apply if:
- you live in North Dublin, Louth, Meath, Monaghan or Cavan
- you are over 18 years old
- you have lived experience of using mental health services, or supporting someone else to use mental health services
Applicants should be comfortable speaking at meetings, listening to different views, and talking about their experiences in a way that others can learn from. No formal qualifications are needed.
This is a voluntary unpaid role, but agreed expenses will be reimbursed, such as travel to and from meetings.
Support will be provided to help people take part. This may include information in different formats or support around meeting times and access needs.
Applications close at 9am on Tuesday 26 May 2026. Apply online at: https://surveys.hse.ie/s/mentalhealthboard/
